The 1870s were an important time for both music and beer fans alike. During this period, Thomas Edison invented the original phonograph and Heinrich Beck was brewing his first batch. It’s highly doubtful that the two men would have thought their inventions would come together nearly 150 years later to create the world’s first beer bottle record player.

New Zealand agency Shine Limited teamed up with Gyro Constructivists to pair 19th century technology with the 21st century sounds of Auckland band, Ghost Waves. The team inscribed the new single, “Here She Comes,” into the surface of a Beck’s beer bottle which was then played on specially-built device based on Thomas Edison’s original phonograph. Not only does it function, but it produces high quality sound on par with that of a traditional vinyl album. By pairing the old with the new, a beer has never sounded so good.
