Balenciaga will present their Autumn/Winter 2016 collection via a 360 degree Virtual reality stream available on a custom built app.

As the head designer and principle spokesperson of much-hyped fashion house Vetements, Demna Vsaliahas done much to breath fresh life into the fashion scene. His achievements have almost partially obscured the fact that he first cemented his name by emerging as the successor to Alexander Wang as the artistic director of Balenciaga.

In a move that can be interpreted as Demna continuing his unconventional approach and also helping to further enmesh the relationship between fashion and technology, Balenciaga have announced that their Paris Fashion Week Show will be made available via a live 360 degree Virtual reality stream.

The VR live stream will be presented through a custom built Balenciaga app available through both the App Store and Google Play, making it available on both iPhone and Android Devices.

For those lacking a VR headset, the 360-degree live stream will be available at live.balenciaga.

The show, which will air live this Sunday 5th March, is not the fashion world’s first foray into the world of Virtual reality. Last year, American luxury fashion company Coach created a VR experience for desktops during New York Fashion week. Prior to that, Topshop invited consumers to take in their 2014 Autumn/Winter show on Oculus Rift headsets at their London flagship store. Tommy Hilfiger installed Samsung Gear VR headsets in select stores in the Autumn of 2014, and allowed shoppers the chance to view their most recent runway shows through them.
