San Francisco designer Yves Behar and Jason Johnson – founders of August – have just announced the company’s first product: the August Smart Lock.
A keyless entry system, Smart Lock connects to your iPhone through Bluetooth. When it senses that your connected phone is near, the door, like magic, unlocks. The system can work with multiple connected phones, too; with the ability to invite and issue virtual keys, users are also granted the power to control exactly when these virtual keys work.
For those who need absolute control, push notifications can alert users to who is in their house and which door they entered through. And, if all else fails, you can still use your actual key to get in.
We’ve seen home automation surge recently, now with August’s latest roll of the dice, it’s not too difficult to see a near future where the majority of our interactions with everyday objects are automated.
