Ever seen a product you pretty much like the look of, but there's just one or two little niggling things about it that aren't quite right? If only there was an easy way to edit the design...

Armada is a portable 3D scanner that can quickly capture the physical shape of any object, and then have it transformed into an electronic file that can be edited in design software. Developed by designers Isaac Blankensmith and Kyle DeHovitz, the device uses a set of cameras and an eye-friendly cross-beam laser to create a 3D scan that, once synced with your iPhone or assorted Android device via Bluetooth, can then be stored as an STP file. These digital designs can then be edited in 3D modelling software, providing huge possibilities for the budding product designer or craft maker.

It's likely the device will initially be used in studios, where designers can scan prototypes and models for quick editing and adjustments. But it also makes us wonder what might happen if consumers started using it too. Would they end up scanning designs of objects they liked, wherever they may be, and customising them for their own needs?
