The Merry Karnowsky Gallery is unveiling a body of new work by artist Mark Whalen aka Kill Pixie. The Los Angeles gallery is launching the installation called Anomaly on 3rd September, presenting art work by Whalen. For Anomaly he has collaborated with Thomas McMahan, director, designer and animator of yesyes.tv, and Carla Azar, musician and member of avant-garde rock band Autolux. Mark Whalen first became well known under his street art moniker Kill Pixie, painting large scale graffiti pieces in his hometown of Sydney, but since working on his new style of contemporary art he has shed the alias in favour of his real name.   His pieces have a strong signature style, with geometric shapes, grids and surreal characters floating in unusual architectural environments. The scenes have a kaleidoscopic quality while maintaining very controlled detail, resulting in puzzling micro-worlds.   For the Anomaly exhibition his paintings have been animated. You can watch a teaser of Anomaly above. The show coincides with the launch of Whalen’s first book, Human Development, which will be printed in a limited edition run of 1000.
