To introduce the new platform Tastemakr will launch a new product everyday for the next 24 days“I was at a festival last year where a handful of independent food makers and entrepreneurs were exhibiting their products,” says Anthony O Thomas, founder of Tastemakr, a new platform officiating the trade of quality artisanal food. “They were told buyers from headline stores would be present on the day. I couldn’t help but notice the anxiety and pressure, it was make or break and it got me thinking, how can it be this difficult for a new wave of independent food makers to establish themselves?” Tastemakr’s goal is to change the way that independent artisans and makers connect with their customers. The platform offers a place where local consumers can purchase craft food and drink sold in small batches direct from the makers. Over the next four weeks, they’ll be running Tastemakr 24x24, an online summer pop-up shop, where you’ll be able to purchase a new collection of artisanal products every day. “In the restaurant business, often a rule of thumb is to roll out a series of pop-ups to gain feedback and hear the voices of the people you’re trying to serve,” says Thomas. “Tastemakr 24x24 is an online pop-up that precedes the full marketplace. As an online business it made sense to run an online pop up.”It's likely that technology is going to play a larger part in how we buy and sell groceries. The Future of Food District explored how data could change the way that we interact with the food that we eat. The digital supermarket displayed over 1,500 items on large interactive tables. Visitors could browse the origins and content of any product on suspended mirrors augmented with digital data. Still hungry for more?
