Before Ai Wei Wei was detained by authorities in Beijing he had finalised a list of key works to be shown at the Lisson Gallery in London. From 13 May - 16 Jul, 2011 we’ll have the chance to see some the most prominent pieces from the artist’s extensive collection of work from the past 6 years including his film Second Ring (2005) and the Marble Chair (2008). The exhibition follows the major public installation Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads which will open at Somerset House on the 12th May, originally set up in New York on 2nd May.   Amongst all the controversy in Ai Wei Wei’s detention it’s easy to overlook his work, this show reminds us why he remains a compelling and acclaimed figure in the art world.
