Hotel room views don't get much better than this. Living Architecture, philosophy writer Alain de Botton's on-going architecture project, has created a one-room hotel that takes the form of a small boat, and has placed it on top of the Southbank Centre in London. The structure, which will remain throughout 2012, has been built by David Kohn architects and Fiona Banner, and offers guests a panoramic view of the Thames that stretches from Big Ben to St Paul's cathedral.

Inside, the building features two floors – or decks – which guests can explore, as well as all the usual details of a good hotel room. During their stay, to help them get the most out of their experience, guests are asked to write up their thoughts and feelings each day in a log book.

The project shows how travelers, as well as curious city dwellers, are seeking more unexpected experiences from hotel rooms. A Room For London certainly achieves this, and gives people a view of the city that was never previously possible.

The room is booked up until the summer. But bookings for the second half of the year will be on sale on 19th January, so set yourself a reminder.
