HBO’s A Matter of Taste; Serving up Paul Liebrandt documents the rise and fall and eventual rise of the enigmatic British chef over the course of his 10-year career.   Liebrandt starting off his illustrious culinary career working under 3-Michelin-starred Marco Pierre White, gaining himself an insight into the forefront of gastronomy. Around the same time, friend and director Sally Rowe began filming him – now 10 years on we can watch it all happen.   An approach to food that goes beyond taste is what sets Liebrandt apart from his peers, he’s interested in the emotions it evokes and the whole sensory package, saying of his dishes; “what story am I telling, what emotion am I trying to stimulate.” We’re all about food at the moment, and we haven’t stopped going on about it. What we have here with A Matter of Taste is a true insight into the creative process behind this cutting edge chef, while we’ve seen plenty of this from the likes of Anthony Bourdain and Top Chef – now get a glimpse into the real workings behind the industry.
