A long German winter inspired three Berliners to create something tangibly beautiful from the following frosty season.
The first issue of A Mag For All Seasons, the Winter Issue, is influenced by the early sense of dread that came with the premature Berlin Winter of August last year. Three experienced magazinistas are the driving force behind the publication: Ana Lessing is art director and photographer, Kati Krause is editor and media strategist, with journalist and editor Kevin Braddock completing the trio. They insist the March release is because the issue is not for winter itself, but made out of independent elements from it, capturing the essence of extremes and contradictions associated with the cold, dark months.
The content within ranges from a Peruvian journalist's laments to Lima, through to icy prose and bone sculptures that invoke the fragility of the season. Not only are its pages borne from Winter, the magazine's form also acts as an ode, printed on different paper stocks that vary in colour and weight to reflect the cyclical stages of snow.
Winter magazine is the first of a four-part series under the umbrella title of A Mag For All Seasons. As the name suggests, a summer issue will follow later this year, while spring and autumn editions will be published in 2015. Winter will be available in specialist magazine stores and concept shops globally with a limited print run of 1,000.
