Sadly, dropping holiday snaps off at Boots to be processed is no longer a ritual many of us partake in. Nor is, "Hopefully that came out alright" stock commentary from behind the amateur lens these days either. Instead, a bad photo is deleted and retaken until everyone involved is satisfied; spontaneity and suspense are often lost to digital photography.

Software developers Nevercenter appreciate the excitement that comes with waiting for photos, they have created an app called 1-Hour Photo that makes you wait, well, one hour for your photo before printing it out in beautiful black and white film emulation.

Nevercenter aren’t the first to suggest slowing down and considering the photography process, Thirty Six is an app that gives users a 36 photo ‘film’ that can only be reviewed once all the photos have been taken. Both of these apps encourage users to attach more value to a single image, a sentiment at odds with the disposability of digital photography.
